Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Japanese, 1798 to 1861, colored woodblock print on paper, Kawasaki, from the series, Fifty three Parallels for the Tokaido Road, 1845 to 1946. Inscribed in the print upper to the center. Signed in the print lower left. Utagawa Kuniyoshi was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school. The range of Kuniyoshis subjects included many genres: landscapes, beautiful women, Kabuki actors, cats, and mythical animals.
