Lot 0334: ANTIQUE 19TH C JAPANESE NOBORU NAGAWA BRASS VASES

41 reviews

A pair of antique Japanese Meiji period cast brass vases modeled as bamboo branches by Noboru Nagawa. The body is adorned with hand etched decor depicting flowering branches of wisteria. Circa the second half of the 19th century. Features a hieroglyphic signature to the body and the makers mark to the bottom. Note: Nogawa Shoten was founded in 1825 at 22 Shijo Otabicho, Kyoto. Nogawa acted both as a manufacturer and dealer and in addition to the workshop had showrooms in the Kyoto Hotel and the Miyako Hotel, the city’s most exclusive hotels. Although there is surprisingly little documentation on the company, it appears to have been well-known at the time. It exhibited at several large overseas exhibitions between 1893 and 1910. Japanese Metalware Pieces, Oriental Decorative Collectibles, Room Accents And Accessories.
