An ancient Late East Roman Imperial to early Byzantine Empire superb stone mosaic depicting a running deer with its head raised. The deer sprints to the right and features a lean, muscular body with hooved feet. The forelegs are raised as if preparing for another powerful stride with hind legs extended beneath the slender tail. One almond-shaped eye peers out from behind the lengthy snout, and pair of horns on top. The image of the deer is surrounded by a floral motif in red and brown shades. Tessera pieces are original 4th to 5th century but the overall image is a reconstruction following archaeological patterns and notes in situ. Framed. Ancient and Antique Roman Imperial Byzantine Animal Mosaic, Wall Art, Home Decor, and Collectibles.
