An ancient Late West Roman Imperial to early Byzantine Empire superb stone mosaic depicting a running dog. The dog sprints to the left. The forelegs are raised as if preparing for another powerful stride with hind legs extended beneath the raised tail. One almond-shaped eye peers out from behind the lengthy snout, and protruding tongue. The tongue and a collar with a leash are made of mosaics in a red shade. The road and the body of the dog are made of mosaic panels in a grey shade. Tessera pieces are original 4th to 5th century but the overall image is a reconstruction following archaeological patterns and notes in situ. Framed. Ancient and Antique Roman Imperial Byzantine Animal Mosaic, Wall Art, Home Decor, and Collectibles.
