A mid-20th century Native American sterling silver spoon. The handle has hammered Tlingit Raven Totem design and relief emblem with inscription Alaska Purchase Centennial, 1867-1967. Hallmark Sterling is on the backside. Weight: 15.1 grams. The Tlingit are indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast of North America. This spoon is based on the Potlatch spoons of the ceremonial heritage of the Indian tribes of Southeast Alaska. Mr. Amos Wallace of the Tlingit of the Raven Clan designed the Raven Totem on the handle, the Alaska Purchase Seal was created by Major Robert Vodicka. The Alaska Purchase was the United States acquisition of Alaska from the Russian Empire in October 1867.
