Lot 0306: HEREND ROTHSCHILD HAND PAINTED PORCELAIN PLATTER

41 reviews

A Herend Rothschild hand painted porcelain platter serving dish. The exterior and interior of the dish is adorned with a bird pattern, and various insects motif. The platter is adorned with a gilded scalloped rim, and a figural handle made in a shape of a leaf. Marked with a blue ink mark, A2002, and numbered, 650, on the backside. Many connoisseurs consider this pattern, first created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe, to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain. Twelve different motifs portray a 19th century tale about Baroness Rothschild, who lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later it was found by her gardener, who saw birds playing with it in a tree. Antique and Vintage American Porcelain table and Desk Wares, Home Decor, and Collectibles.
