Constantine Pougialis, American, 1894 to 1985, watercolor painting on paper depicting a cityscape. Signed lower left. Framed. A paper sheet showing detailed information about the artist and inscribed in ink, Former Professor at The Art Institute of Chicago, Lived in Old Town, Chicago Tribute August 14, 1985, on the backside. Constantine Pougialis is known for Figure genre, still life, and landscape painting. Constantine Pougialis was born in Xulokastro, Greece, and arrived in America in 1913. The same year, the famous Armony Show took place, the introduction of the European Avant Garde Art in New York. Pougialis learned from his father about the restoration of Byzantium pictures in the Greek Orthodox churches. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and then traveled to Greece and Paris, where he completed his studies. He traveled a lot in Mexico, Canada, Italy and Spain and then returned to Chicago where he became, 1938 to 1962, one of the most popular lecturers of the Art Institute of Chicago. One of a kind artwork.
