Edmund Franklin Ward, American, 1892 to 1990, gouache on paper illustration depicting John Fry on his way to Tiverton School. It complements the chapter on John Ridds School Days in the novel Lorna Doone, written by R. D. Blackmore and published 1869. Circa the 1900s. Matted and Framed. Edmund Franklin Ward was an illustrator who illustrated for the Saturday Evening Post and did his first illustrations for the magazine before turning age 20. He had a successful career as an illustrator of works that ranged in style and subject matter from dark tonalist in oils to humorous in wash and watercolor.
