Lot 0597: VINTAGE 1960S CONEY ISLAND ICE CREAM SHOP CHAIR

41 reviews

A great example of vintage American furniture used for retail shops in Brooklyn NYC through the 1960s and 1970s. The current chair is a hand-turn wire with a heart or romantic design. It belonged to one of the most iconic Coney Island stores: Maxie’s Waffles, It was located on the Boardwalk at West 15th Street inside the Sodamat building. Well known by all kids in the 1960s years due to its slogan “Three Scoops for a Quarter!” and its simple, neighborhood vibes. The waffle irons were unique in their design and manufacture unfortunately lost the remaining descriptions of their shapes and designs. The store burned down in 1974. The current lot is part of some rescued architectural salvages done by locals after the destruction of the iconic business. Great piece of local History from old times in New York City.
