An antique near the 23 karats gold grade double sided extra large medallion pendant with rich ornamentation and accents. One side has an enameled portrait of Saint Nicholas of Myra, also known as Nicholas of Bari, who was an early Christian bishop of Greek descent from the maritime city of Myra in Asia Minor during the time of the Roman Empire. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, children, brewers, pawnbrokers, unmarried people, and students in various cities and countries around Europe. The reverse side features an enameled representation of a square rigged caravel sailing ship, a small maneuverable sailing ship used by the Portuguese to explore along the West African coast and into the Atlantic Ocean. The simplistic representation of the ship might indicate that the piece was done at very late of the 15th century instead of the early 16th century. The dangles on the medallion are natural harvested freshwater pearls and raw cut emeralds with a quite great quality. Antique Medieval Jewelry And Religious Collectibles. Weight 95 g.
