A hard to find ancient Chinese pottery figurine of lokapala, Tang Dynasty, ca. 613-901 A.D. In Buddhism, lokapala refers to the Four Heavenly Kings, and to other protector spirits, whereas the Guardians of the Directions are referred to as the dikpalas. The warrior is depicted standing in a powerful pose and in ornate armor, holding a foot atop a ram. His face is well modeled, has a belligerent expression, and is painted reddish in color, as are his clenched hands. Finely preserved and highly detailed. Chinese Pottery Sculptures, Religious And Spiritual Objects, Oriental Historical Collectibles.
