A nice vintage Damascus marquetry chess and backgammon box, circa the second half of the 20th century. The rectangular fold over box has a chess playing surface to the exterior and a backgammon playing surface to the interior. The surface is skillfully inlaid with fine Sadeli mosaic motifs composed of various wood types pieces and other natural materials. Note: Sadeli is a highly skilled technique where the craftsmen fabricate intricate geometric or floral patterns on teak or other locally available wood.
