An antique 18th to 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon of Virgin Mary with Christ Child in the Korsun Mother of God iconography. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board with kovcheg, gilt background. Titled in Church Slavonic on the bottom. Saint John the Baptist and St Catherine are depicted on the sides. The original Mother of God of Korsun icon was brought from Korsun, now Khersones in the Crimea, by Prince Vladimir in 988 when Russia adopted Christianity.
