An antique 19th to 20th-century Russian Orthodox icon of Saint Tryphon of Campsada. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board, gilt background. Tryphon is depicted on horseback holding a merlin with Jesus Christ looking down on him from heaven, St. Nicholas, St. Basil, and St. Anna are depicted on the sides. Each character is named in Church Slavonic. In Russia, Tryphon is venerated as a patron of birds. There are hand-scratched inscriptions on the backside.
