Nicolai Ivanovitch Vassilieff, Russian, American, 1892 to 1970, oil painting on canvas depicting a rural mountain landscape with a figure in the Post Impressionist manner. Signed by the artist, N. Vasilieff, lower left. Framed. Note: Nicolas Vasilief was born in Moscow, and was graduated with high honors from the Moscow Academy of Fine Arts. Since the artists arrival in this county in 1923 he has exhibited in all the national shows. His work is owned by the Yale University Collection, the Societe Anonyme, The Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts and is in many private collections including that of Mr. and Mrs. B. Lippincot of Philadelphia, Mr. and Mrs. Bjarne Klaussen of Lewiston, NY and Mr. and Mrs. Ansley W. Sawyer of Buffalo, NY. In 1948 Vasilieff won the first prize of $3000 in the third annual La Tausca competitive exhibition of paintings by contemporary American Artists.
