A pair of vintage Chinese hand carved lacquerware Cinnabar decorative plates. The plates are adorned with an image of a scene with a Geisha in a blossoming garden. The borders feature foliage and floral patterns. The artist is Ling Fu.These plates are the first and the third from the five plate series, The Sense of Taste, an original work of art in the traditional of Chu Yuan chang from the Ming Dynasty, The Five Perceptions of Weo Cho. These plates are a radical departure from the porcelain plates traditionally sold in the West. The Cinnabar plates are deeply carved giving them a three dimensional quality and multiple layers of a thick lacquer are applied during the process to create a smooth surface. Other steps involve bathing in a solution to add the coloring and polishing to give a final luster. Completed with a Certificate of Authenticity.
