An antique 18th-century Russian Orthodox icon, Mother of God with Christ Child in the Burning bush iconography. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The central image of Virgin Mary and Jesus is enclosed in an eight-pointed star formed by two quadrangles in blue and red. Symbols of the four evangelists are depicted in the red stars corners. This allegorical iconography was formed in Orthodox tradition in the 16th century. Russian Religious Items and Antique Collectables.
