An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon representing the Intercession of the Theotokos, also known as Protecting Veil of Our Lady or Pokrov. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Nevyansk iconography. Titled in Church Slavonic on the top. There are handwritten inscriptions in pre-reform Russian on the backside. The Intercession of Theotokos is a Christian feast of the Mother of God celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox church in October.
