The medallion has a hand-painted decor copying the design of Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of Our Lady of Graces, a devotional medal which was originated by Catherine Laboure following her apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal of Paris, France, in 1830. The frontside depict Virgin Mary with inscription O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee, 1830. The reverse depicts a monogram of the Virgin and two hearts.
