An Imperial Russian Orthodox icon representing Saint John the Warrior, a Christian saint and martyr, regarded as a helper in sorrow and poverty. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The icon is covered with a gilt silver riza or oklad, a protecting case with repousse work and cloisonne enamel decor. Hallmark 84 silver standard and silver marks are on the side of the riza. The backside of the icon is lined with velvet and has a suspension ring. Antique Russian Religious Items and Collectibles.
