A vintage hand carved marble life mask bust of George Washington. The bust was made after Jean Antoine Houdon, French 1741 to 1828. This is a reproduction of the original life mask bust of Washington modeled at Mount Vernon in 1785 by Jean Antoine Houdon. Inscribed, Houdon, on the backside. Jean Antoine Houdon is famous for his portrait busts and statues of philosophers, inventors and political figures of the Enlightenment. Houdons subjects included Denis Diderot, Benjamin Franklin, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Voltaire, Moliere, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Louis XVI, Robert Fulton, and Napoleon Bonaparte. George Washington, 1732 to 1799, was an American military officer, statesman, and Founding Father who served as the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1797.
