A pair of large Japanese porcelain vases of baluster shape with pierced base. Late Meiji period, before 1912. The hand-painted bodies depict a fight scene on the recto side and multi-figure scene of a feast on the verso side. A buddha is depicted on the necks. The items are decorated with gilt accents and geometric ornaments. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
