A large Japanese Satsuma porcelain tripod incense burner. Late Meiji period, before 1912. The censer has two decorative handles, the pirced lid is topped with a foo dog finial. The hand-painted body depicts a garden tea ceremony. The item is decorated with gilt accents and geometric ornaments. Hieroglyphical hallmark is on the bottom. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
