Oil on canvas painting representing a scientist surrounded by disciples in his workroom. It is a copy of a 1700's artwork titled The Alchemist in His Workshop by Balthasar van den Bossche, 1681 to 1715, a Flemish genre painter who gained a reputation with his representations of artist studio interiors, art collector galleries, and laboratories of physicians. The original is now in the collection of the Philadelphia Science History Institute. Handwritten inscription Prop. of Andre Auger on the backside of the stretcher.
