Hui Chi Mau, Chinese, born 1922, watercolor painting on paper a still life with flowers and insects in a landscape. Signed in Hieroglyphs and Latin, and stamped lower right. Framed. Hui Chi Mau immigrated from Hong Kong to New York City and was renowned for painting Horses in his Chinese black brush style. He also produced some remarkable florals paintings. Hui Chi Mau comes from a long line of “gentleman-scholars,” who since the days of the Sung Dynasty have traditionally been associated with calligraphy, poetry and painting. As a young man, he studied classic Chinese brush painting at the National Art Academy, Hangchow, China. He was a protege of Chi Pai shih. One of a kind artwork.
