An antique Russian 19th century icon hand painted on wood panel and depicting the Mother of God and Infant Christ. Features a traditional 84 silver riza or oklad decorated with hand hammered and embossed motifs. The back of the icon is covered in brown velvet and features a metal plaque with engraved commemorative inscription in Russian: To the esteemed Stepan Alekseevich Mitrofanov, in memory of the twelve years of ktitorship at the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit at the Prechistensky Gates, grateful parishioners, April 15, 1907. Stamped with an 84 silver standard, George the Victorious for Moscow, an assay mark with the date 1826, and the makers mark.
