Lot 0293: NAPOLEONIC FRENCH IMPERIAL GUARD DRAGOON SABER

A French First Empire dragoons officers saber with battle guard and scabbard. Brass frame. The guard is decorated with six branches forming an openwork shell. The wooden handle is covered with black waxed calfskin. Curved blade with grooves, engraved and blued on its first third with military trophies on a gold background, and features an engraved inscription, on the obverse: Au Grand Napoleon 1er Empereur des Francais et Roi d Italie, and on the reverse: Pour lHonneur et la Patrie. Complete with its original scabbard. This type of saber appeared in 1784 but was used during all Empire by all cavalry except hussars, because it was very appreciated and many officers adopted it.
