Lot 0045: SCOTTISH PENCIL PAINTINGS BY CHRISTINA ROBERTSON

41 reviews

Christina Robertson, English, Scottish, 1796 to 1854, two artworks. The first: color pencil painting on paper depicting an oval portrait of a lady. The second is pencil painting on paper, French and English; signed and dated 1833, lower left; titled lower to the center. Christina Robertson is known for Portrait painting. During this time interest in her work increased, and among her distinguished patrons were the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, the Countess of Sheffield, Lord Powerscourt and Viscountess Barrington. After 1830 her circle of patrons had widened to include more international names such as Rothschild, Monte Bello, Zuvadovsky and Pototski, which must have influenced her decision to travel to St Petersburg in 1839. One of a kind artwork.
