A pair of antique black and white portrait photographs with autographs. The first photo depicts a portrait of Fedor Ivanovich Chaliapin, a Russian opera and chamber singer; inscribed, signed, and dated 1927, upper left. The second cabinet photo depicts a portrait of Gustav Mahler, an Austro Bohemian Romantic composer; signed lower right; marked lower to the center and on the back .Gustav Mahler, 1860 to 1911, was an Austro Bohemian Romantic composer, and one of the leading conductors of his generation. As a composer he acted as a bridge between the 19th century Austro German tradition and the modernism of the early 20th century. Feodor Ivanovich Chaliapin, 1873 to 1938, was a Russian opera singer. Possessing a deep and expressive bass voice, he enjoyed an important international career at major opera houses and is often credited with establishing the tradition of naturalistic acting in his chosen art form.
