A fine Russian Cubist oil on board painting depicting a female nude by Vera Schlesinger Rockline, Russian, 1896 to 1934. Signed upper right: V. Rockline. Dated circa 1920. Vera Schlesinger Rockline was a Russian post-impressionist painter. Rockline started her career in Moscow, studying in the studio of Ilya Mashkov, who considered her one of his most brilliant students. In 1918 she became an apprentice at Aleksandra Eksters studio in Kiev, Ukraine. Ekster, who personally knew Pablo Picasso and Guillaume Apollinaire had great influence on Rocklines initial style, also inspiring her creative and free painting spirit. Rockline arrived in Paris in 1921, and settled in the Montparnasse district. She began exhibiting in Paris in 1922 at the Salon dAutomne. Paul Poiret bought four of her paintings. She also exhibited at the Salon des Independants, and the Salon des Tuileries. She had a one-woman exhibition at Galerie Vildrac in Paris in 1925, Paul Poiret wrote the preface of the catalogue. In 1926 she exhibited at Galerie Bernheim. In 1929 she exhibited at Galerie le Studio, and in 1930 at Galerie Barreiro, where she exhibited for the following four years. She was a member of the lUnion Russe des Arts. One of a kind artwork. Russian Soviet Fine Art For Collectors.
