Lot 0003: JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT BY SADANOBU HASEGAWA

Sadanobu Hasegawa, 1881 to 1963, woodblock print titled Yanone, or the Arrow Head, depicting a dramatic portrait of Goro, the younger of the famous Soga Brothers, posing with a huge arrow in a fighting stance in a scene from the classic kabuki play Yanone. Patterned with colorful butterflies, his black outer robe has been pushed down to the waist, revealing an orange and white checked kimono with delicate butterfly designs. Signed and stamped upper left. Matted and framed. With the additional information about the artwork mounted to the back. Circa the mid 20th century. Sadanobu Hasegawa was the third in a long line of Japanese printmakers, following his father and grandfather into the profession. Most of the woodblock prints by Sadanobu Hasegawa III were made after World War II. Vintage Japanese Woodblock Collectibles.
