Helmut Liesegang grew up in Kleve, a small city in the Lower Rhine area, from where he very soon started to visit the Academy in Dusseldorf. When he finished his studies, he started traveling and went to Belgium, the Netherlands and Paris where he got to know many important painters such as Max Liebermann. He returned to his home area and the nature of the Lower Rhine region became his most important subject. He fled the bombardments during the war and went to Leipzig where he died in 1945, named a professor beforehand. He has been awarded many prizes and honors during his lifetime and is nowadays known as one of the most important representatives of the Dusseldorfer Malerschule. One of a kind artwork.
