A small antique French pate sur pate, paste on paste porcelain vase. The vase is adorned with an image of a Neoclassical nude woman holding the sun, and a sterling silver overlay made in a foliage design, and decorated with etching. Circa: 1900s. Marked with a standard Sterling Silver hallmark, numbered, and other marks, on the bottom. Pate sur pate is a French term meaning paste on paste. It is a method of porcelain decoration in which a relief design is created on an unfired, unglazed body, usually with a coloured body, by applying successive layers of usually white porcelain slip liquid clay with a brush.
