Nicolai Isaiev, Ukrainian, Russian, French, 1891 to 1977, oil painting on canvas depicting depicting a still life with flowers and an icon of Mother of God. Signed lower right. Nicolai Isaiev is known for Cubist painting, still life objects, graphics, stage design. He was born in Odessa, Nicolai Isaiev was a painter, illustrator and theatre decorator. He moved to Paris in 1925 and studied art at the Ranson Academy. At this stage, he mainly painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits. Nicolai was in the army during the First World War. He immigrated to Belgrade in 1919, where he worked at the National Theatre as a decorator. Issaievs works were exhibited in Brussels, Paris and Belgrade. After the Second World War he moved to Switzerland, then to Italy, and finally to Spain. In the 50s and 60s, Issaiev exhibited his works in several Parisian galleries. He also participated in the exhibition dedicated to Russian painters of the Paris School in 1961. According to his biography. Issaiev would also have illustrated books by Charles Baudelaire, Pierre de Ronsard, Edgar Allan Poe and Gogol. One of a kind.
