A framed antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox hand-painted porcelain icon. The icon depicts Virgin Mary with Christ Child in the Panagia Portaitissa iconography. Our Lady of Iveron, also known as Iverskaya in Russian, is an Eastern Orthodox icon of the Virgin Mary in the Georgian Iviron monastery on Mount Athos in Greece, where it is believed to have been since the year 999. According to the sacred tradition of the Eastern Orthodox Church it was painted by Luke the Evangelist. Provenance: Anna Feltsman Estate. Feltsman family: Oscar Feltsman, 1921 to 2013, was a Russian composer of Jewish descent born in Odessa. He was the father of Vladimir Feltsman, born 1952, a Russian-American classical pianist.
