A Tibetan silk scroll known as Thangka, or Tanka, a Buddhist painting that serves as a teaching tool. The tanka in this lot depicts Avalokitesvara, a bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. Avalokitesvara is represented in the Sarashabruja iconography, meaning Thousand-Armed and Thousand-Eyed, a deity that sees and helps all. The painting is mounted on a textile backing. A reference with information about the iconography is attached on the backside. Collectible Oriental Buddhist Religious Art.
