Color lithograph by Ilya Shenker, born 1920, a Soviet and American artist of Jewish origin. The print depicts two ballet dancers, a scene from The Firebird ballet. From a series of eight silkscreen lithographs. Signed by the artist in the lower right. Numbered 92 out of 150 in the lower left. The item was donated by Sandra Genter to the Jerome Robbins Dance Division possibly in 2013. The Firebird ballet was written and orchestrated by Igor Stravinsky in 1910 for the Sergei Diaghilevs Ballets Russes company. The original choreography was done by Michel Fokine, who collaborated with Alexandre Benois on a scenario based on the Russian fairy tales of the Firebird and its blessing and curse on its owner.
