An antique 19th-century gilt brass pen box. Presumably Persian, Qajar period, 1795 to 1925. Qalamdan literally means pen container in Persian. Traditionally, it has the form of an oblong narrow deep box with rounded ends. This lot also has a small square compartment for ink, the lid of the inkwell is decorated with a figurative shell.
