An antique late 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The icon is enclosed in a silver riza or oklad with repousse work, hallmarks with silver standard are on the lower side. The icon depicts Jesus in the Christ Pantocrator iconography, known in the Western Christianity as Christ in Majesty. Jesus is holding a book with a citation from Matthew, 11:29, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
