Anatoly Lvovich Kaplan was a Soviet Jewish artist. He studied at the Higher Artistic and Technical Institute in Petrograd Leningrad under G. S. Vereisky and A. A. Rylov. The work of Anatoly Kaplan throughout his life was closely connected with Jewish folklore and literature in Yiddish, he was a creator of illustrations for the works of a number of Jewish writers, including the classics of Jewish literature, as well as Jewish folk songs. Anatoly Kaplan was an outstanding artist, illustrator, representative of the Leningrad school of graphics, who opened a new page in the art of lithography. The most famous are his series of color and black and white lithographs on the themes of the classics of Jewish literature Sholom Aleichem and Mendele Moyher Sforim.
