A rare antique French enamel decorated art glass chalice or compote bowl by Jacques Philippe Imberton. The exterior and interior of the compote bowl are adorned with a polychrome hand enameled and gilt decoration depicting a boxing scene to the center and floral, foliage and scrollwork patterns. The chalice is raised on a flaring circular feet. Signed and dated, J.J. Imberton 1883, to the center. Circa: late 19th century. Jacques Philippe Imberton worked in the nineteenth century tradition of other French enamel artisans influenced by Islamic designs, also referred to as the Persian manner. He worked for the Paris decorating company Bucan et Duponthieu beginning in 1882, exhibiting at the Paris Exposition of 1878 and created designs for Appert Freres in Clichy.
