A very rare pair of antique Russian bronze candleholders, each depicting a bear climbing up a tree. Signed on base in Cyrillic Lep. Grachev. Vasily Yakovlevich Grachev, 1831 to 1905, was a Russian sculptor, the main competitor to Eugene Lanceray. He stopped modeling after Lancerays death in 1886. Both of them together made a great input to Russian sculptural art by competing and inspiring each other. Grachev used to cast all his works at Woerffel foundry, St. Petersburg. Circa the late 19th century. Antique Russian Bronze Candlesticks And Sculpture Collectibles.
