Obverse: Head of Alexander III right inscribed in Russian around the rim: WITH THE MERCY OF GOD ALEXANDER III THE EMPEROR AND AUTOCRAT OF ALL RUSSIA. Reverse: Heraldic eagle with shields of provinces or duchies, holding imperial orb and staff. The denomination and the year of the coin is minted in the bottom: 5 roubles, 1889. Well preserved coin with good detail. Comes with a special coin case. Alexander III was Emperor of Russia, King of Congress Poland and Grand Duke of Finland from 13 March 1881 until his death in 1894. He was highly reactionary and reversed some of the liberal reforms of his father, Alexander II. This policy is known in Russia as counter-reforms.
