A Humpty Dumpty clown cast iron mechanical bank. The bank shows a clown with his mouth open and his swinging arm having an open hand. The eyes roll back into the head and the tongue retracts when the lever is depressed to swallow a coin. Hand painted in bright colors. Has no visible marks. George L. Fox, 1825 to 1877, was Americas first whiteface clown famous for his character, Humpty Dumpty, created in 1867. Fox gave 1128 performances on Broadway in this role and was the most highly paid actor of his time. This Humpty Dumpty coin bank was patented by Charles G. Shepard and Peter Adams in 1884.
