Jean Baptiste Clesinger, antique silvered bronze female statue depicting a beautiful figure of a gypsy woman titled Zingara. A tambourine is missing. Signed J. Clesinger, Rome, 1858 on the tree trunk portion of the bronze and stamped by F. Barbedienne, Fondeur, along the bottom rim of the bronze. Also, holds a Reduction Mecanique A Collas Brevete stamp. Jean Baptiste Auguste Clesinger, 1814 to 1883, was a French sculptor and painter. At the death of Frederic Chopin on 17 October 1849, Clesinger made Chopins death mask and a cast of his hands. He also sculpted, in 1850, the white marble funerary monument of Euterpe, the muse of music, for Chopins grave at the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, in Paris. Antique French Sculptures For Collectors.
