Lot 0237: ANTIQUE RUSSIAN SILVER TEA HOLDER WITH GLASS IOB

An antique 1890s Russian silver podstakannik with a tea glass. Podstakannik is a handled holder for a drinking glass, or stakan, usually used for hot tea. The holder is richly decorated with chasing and engravings of flower garlands, ribbons, cartouches. Hallmarks Ovchinnikov, 84 Silver standard, coat of arms of Saint Petersburg are on the bottom of the item. Weight of the holder: 107 grams. The tall glass has a matching ornamental etching. Both pieces come in the original leather box, upholstered in blue velvet, with the Imperial Eagle and the inscription Ovchinnikov. The Sotheby's sales tag has been preserved in the case. Pavel Ovchinnikov was a Russian jewelry manufacturer and supplier of the Imperial court in the late 19th - early 20th century. Collectible Antique Russian Silver Tableware.
