An antique woodcut print representing a medieval battle scene by a dyke. The print is an illustration for Der Weisskunig, The White King, a chivalric novel written by Maximilian I, 1486–1519, Holy Roman Emperor. The novel was illustrated by the most prominent artists of the time, but the full edition of 251 illustrations appeared only in 1775. The lot is plate 193 from this edition, as indicated in the lower left. It was executed by Leonhard Beck, 1480-1542, a German artist and an assistant to Hans Holbein the Elder who is mostly remembered for his Weisskunig woodcuts. White mat. Collectible Northern Renaissance Graphic Art.
