Lot 0005: ANTIQUE ENGRAVING PASSION OF JESUS BY JAN SADELER

An antique engraving depicting a biblical scene from the Passion of Jesus, Christ being nailed to the Cross. Inscription in Latin underneath is a citation from Luke, 23: When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals, one on his right, the other on his left; Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. Signed J. Sadler in the lower left. After the design of Marten de Vos, as indicated in the middle bottom. From a series of 12 plates titled Il Credo with verses from the Old and New Testament, 1582. Jan Sadeler, 1550-1600, was a Flemish engraver. Marten or Maerten de Vos, 1532-1603, was a Flemish painter who created numerous engraving designs. Collectible Northern Renaissance Graphic Art.

Overall good vintage condition. Some signs of age and wear. Refer to photos. Sold As Is.
