An antique engraving depicting a biblical scene, Christ carrying the Cross on the way to Calvary. Inscription in Latin underneath is a citation from John, 19: And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull. Numbered plate 45 in the lower left, from the series Vita, Passio, et Resurrectio Iesu Christi first published 1598. Signed underneath, designed by Marten de Vos, engraved by Adriaen Collaert, published by Jan Galle. Marten or Maerten de Vos, 1532-1603, was a Flemish painter who created more than 1600 print designs. He often collaborated with Adriaen Collaert, 1560-1618, a Flemish engraver. Jan or Joannes Galle, 1600–1676, was a Flemish engraver and the grandson of Philip Galle, a publisher best known for working with the artists nowadays known as the old masters. White mat. Overall good vintage condition. Some signs of age and wear. Refer to photos. Sold As Is.
