James Gillray, 1756-1815, was a British caricaturist and printmaker famous for his political and social satires. During the French Revolution, Gillray took a conservative stance and ridiculed the French, which greatly annoyed Napoleon, who wanted Gillray's caricatures suppressed by the British government.
